Previously the cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, Nehemiah led the third return of exiles from Babylon in 444 B.C. (Neh. 2). Despite intense opposition, God used him to orchestrate the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls (chs. 2-7, 12). Nehemiah, along with Ezra, also carried out numerous reforms (chs. 8-13).
